Amashin

Amashin on Sakita Island  is the capital of the Mantis Clan.  The Mantis Clan lives in a fertile archipelago to the southeast of the Obesh shoreline, off the coast of the Kejonuma.  Many volcanoes formed the heart of Sakita Island, not all of these are inactive, and numerous earthquakes rock the shores each year.  The clan members were born to the sea, and make their livelihood from seafaring trade, and fishing.  The Mantis have no standing army, but instead organize their forces into three fleets known as the First, Second and Third Storms. When the clan is wronged, the Storm comes for their enemies.

It only contained a large table shaped from the marble of the stone floor. Upon the table were the symbols of all five elements, and a single chair at each element in which the Elemental Masters sat. The Council of Elemental Masters meets roughly once per month.

  • Important NPC’s:
    • Shiba Tsukimi – The Blind Phoenix, has held the position of Phoenix Clan Champion for decades. She has struck a balance between her position and the Council of Elemental Masters that has rarely existed throughout the history of the Phoenix, but which her wisdom, patience, and humility has dispelled with the lingering hostility and arrogance that has long prevented such things. Years ago, she was poisoned by a Scorpion’s blade, and in saving her life, the Master of the Void merged Tsukimi’s soul with the Void in an as yet unknown manner. Of late, Tsukimi has grown increasingly withdrawn from the mortal world, growing more and more concerned over oddities in the tapestry of the Void that she has seen coming in the near future.

Senda

Senda  is the capital of the Unicorn Clan.  Sitting on the vast plains of Obesh, sitting on the banks of the Tamo River, this town is a sprawling city built out of smaller communities.  In the center of the city is the Moto Palace.  The architecture and design of the city looks foreign in comparison to the rest of Obesh, which reflects the century long travels the clan undertook.  The people of Senda are welcoming and understanding of new customs.  They have adopted a loose structure of commerce and trade, which supports a great deal of variety.  A Unicorn clan member is difficult to get over on in a trade dispute, as you never know what borrowed tactic they will use in negotiations.  Much the same can be said of their warfare techniques.

    • Itan Shinjo:  Military leader of the Unicorn armies.
    • Kuki Utaku:  Leader of the reknowned calvary of the Unicorn Army.
    • Taki Ide:  Chief diplomatic envoy for the Unicorn Clan.

Kejonuma

The Kejonuma border Obesh to the south. While not a nation per se this is a vile land where the very air can be poisonous, and foul, unholy creatures are summoned forth by dark powers to wage a never-ending battle against all life in Obesh. Simply entering this territory subjects an individual to the possibility of contracting The Kejonuma Taint, a mystical infection that gradually degrades the individual’s morals and sanity, while granting them enhanced strength, speed, and endurance. The risk level and severity of The Taint increase as one proceeds toward the center of the Kejonuma, The Black Pit, which is a direct physical connection to Jigoku (Hell). The Crab Clan, who must regularly fight in areas of the near Kejonuma, consume a huge proportion of the empire’s jade supply, as a piece of jade will absorb the corruption attempting to reach the one carrying it for a limited time before dissolving.  The Nezumi live there in wandering packs and tribes.  They sometimes find ways around the Blood Wall in large numbers.

Races:  Nezumi (4,587)

Taka

This is the capital city of the Scorpion Clan.  The palace and surrounding city is built atop a low plateau in the center of an open plan, making it impossible for hostile forces to approach undetected. Navigating the plateau is difficult as it is made up of winding canyons that seem to be a maze in of themselves. It is one of the three most extravagant family palaces in the Empire.  The plateau and walls seem the only defense to the naked eye, with large towers, and balconies opening up over the planes and the Bako Woods that border the city, giving it almost a delicate look.  The common people of Taka live a peaceful life.  The strong loyalty bonds thread even to the lowest levels of the city.  Trade, merchants, and warriors always make deals that favor the Scorpion Clan.

    • Bayushi’s Labyrinth:  This maze surrounds the Bayushi family Palace.  It has pathways that actually move and walls designed to confuse and disorient. The maze, during peaceful times, is used as a sort of tourist attraction, to test the mettle and cunning of those who would seek to visit the palace. The guards did know how to circumvent the maze for those who would rather just travel to the castle without a test. In times of combat, the guards can activate the deadly traps inside the Labyrinth with a switch. Deadfalls with spikes, explosive magical wards and crushing walls were but a few of the deadly weapons in the maze.
    • Traitor’s Grove:  A grove of trees to the south of Taka, and the most vicious place of punishment in Obesh.  The unusual method of punishment employed in the grove was devised by the Scorpion Clan as a response to an unprecedented betrayal. To the Scorpion, loyalty is valued above all other virtues, and thus betrayal was the most heinous of all crimes, necessitating the most painful penalty they could devise. The most vile criminals in the clan – almost exclusively traitors to the Scorpion – are executed there with special knives, and their souls are permanently bound to the trees to suffer for eternity.
  • Important NPC’s:
    • Lord Bayushi Nitoshi:  A thin layer of the finest silk draped across a bloodied blade. That is the closest comparison to the sinister Bayushi Nitoshi, Scorpion Clan Champion. Shintohoma is the home of the Emperor Hara Matsuyo in the Imperial Capital, and is the seat of power of Obesh since the end of the Dragon Wars.  The city is built around the Imperial Palace, located on Seppun Hill, and was organized in two circles : the Inner City, inside the Enchanted Wall and the Outer City, closed by the outer city walls. Then, the city was further divided into districts, each directed by a governor.  All the Great Clans make up the inhabitants of the city.  Trade, artisans, and citizens live in peace under the Emperors eye.  Political maneuvering is the order of the day in the noble castes, but the average merchant and citizens enjoys a great deal of prosperity and peace.
